Creative Expo Taiwan 2019 – Culture on the move

The 2019 Creative Expo Taiwan's theme is "Culture On The Move." The theme hopes to present the fluid time and land appearance of Taiwanese culture in various exhibitions. How to show the planned performances in the venue in just 12 days is an important task for Optoma, especially when it comes to the installation of the theme pavilion.

The theme of the main stage is Stage On The Move, which represents connecting the dynamics of the Taiwanese culture with each performer's performance. Seamlessly fusing the moving figures and stories during the performance is the main challenge.

Since the Huashan 1914 Creative Park is a recognized monument, the building cannot carry extra lighting equipment due to structural constraints. To accommodate for the complicated lighting and projection equipment installation and image presentation, Optoma's solutions are:

• Main stage: Requires two professional projectors with high brightness and excellent color performance. For best result, the projectors will project content on a 6-meter-large screen with a front and rear projection.
• The Muscle Expression Zone: The projection installation need to support creative projection performances, so visitors can get up close and interact with the projected contents.
• People On the Move Zone: Requires a single projector with a high brightness of 10,000 lumens, ultimate color performance, and stable operation. The projector pairs with interactive sensing devices as a large interactive experience area.
• 'Who am I' Rehearsal Zone: Interactive ground projection. Requires two projectors with high brightness, over 8000 lumens, and brilliant colors to match the interactive content.

After a few meetings and many discussions, the Optoma Taiwan SI team confirmed the client’s needs, and proposed the projection installation plan:

• Main stage: Use two ZU750 laser projectors, which has 7500 ANSI lumens and DuraCore laser light source technology. Paired with A15 short-focus lens and full lens shift function, the set can fully realize 2-way projection (front and rear projection) with mapping on the 6-meter width screen. This setup provides stable operation, outstanding image quality, and color performance.
• The Muscle Expression Zone: The exhibition space is a recognized monument and hanging projectors needs careful consideration. Therefore, working with the curator, 8 units of ZW400UST laser projectors are placed on the ground with a specially designed frame and screen. This solution uses the rear projection to eliminate the technical problems of hanging and endangering the building's integrity.
• People On the Move Zone: ZU1050 MultiColor laser projector paired with A15 short-focus lens provides 10,000 lumens and precise color performance. The projector can hang at lower height makes for easy installation while maintaining a large lens shift range.
• 'Who am I' Rehearsal Zone: 2 sets of ZU850 MultiColor laser projectors paired with A15 short-focus lens can provide high brightness performance. Interactive content can be projected over a 360° range along the vertical axis, including reproduction on a ceiling or floor. This projector can also be placed in portrait mode to fit with art directions.

Chen Jung Liu, the main curator and event organizer of 2019 Creative Expo Taiwan, is very satisified with the visual impact of the performances and how Optoma supported the performers to realize their work.

"In the performance of the main stage event puppet show, the actors were impressed with these two ZU750 laser projector’s effect (positive projection plus rear projection), and they were perfectly matched with the puppet dolls. Both the audience and the actors were touched, and indeed realize the best stage performance as we expect." Miss Liu remarked.

Miss Liu also praises Optoma's installation team. "During the discussion and evaluation, we also learned about the diversity of Optoma products. For example, the ZW400UST laser ultra-short-throw projector can be placed directly on the ground and use rear projection. The image contents are so close to the audience, but without causing a visual burden.” She remarked. "In addition, Optoma’s projection equipment has great flexibility in the use of the exhibition space and viewing space, and can provide satisfactory results. We hope to have the opportunity to work with Optoma again when planning related exhibitions in the future."

WHY OPTOMA?

The main curator and event organizer, Miss Liu, has utlized the combination of projection visual with performers, and the interactive elements of projection and artistic programming. The combination of the audio and video effects is immediate and needs spetecular results. Therefore, when Miss Liu was planning the main stage performaces, she immediately thought of using projectors and related equipment to achieve the mission.

At the beginning of the planning, Miss Liu and her team met with many different companies. They've learned that Coretronic and Optoma have been involved in the arts and culture for a long time and trusted Optoma’s brand and products.

The 2019 Creative Expo Taiwan collaboration and the result were a solid prove of how Optoma exceeded their expectation.
